Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song!


WHAT THE HELL BY AVRIL LAVIGNE


This song is so great if you don’t look at the video. I heard this song in the background of an Australian reality show a couple times and realized I loved it but when I watched the video, I totally hated it. Her shark-toothed smile and all the blatant product placement in said video is a little gross. Also, I used to think of Avril as, like, a little Canadian sista but seeing her get out of bed in her lingerie all I can think of is, “Put it away.”


All that being said, this little pop nugget is so slickly produced and the layered choruses at the end of the song have so many little counter melodies that it is ridiculous. Next time I do karaoke, I am doing the whole Avril Lavigne songbook. The weird thing about her is that her music should be getting deeper and becoming more mature, but is in fact getting bratty and more pop-y with every release almost like she’s going backward.
