Style Matters

Golden Globes Edition

I am aware that some ghey sitting at home making fun of women’s clothes is misogynistic and annoying, not to mention completely unoriginal but just know that I honestly love style and clothes. I also think since it’s part of pop culture, I’m allowed to have my say. That being said, I don’t know how cool it is for men to be bitching out women for what they choose to wear. Especially since we have one option that looks good on almost every single one of us: shave, shower and put on a tux.

Best Dressed
Tilda Swinton.
Slightly severe and a little weird, Ms. Swinton managed to be both elegant and edgy in an up-to-date way. I’m a sucker for anything Jil Sander especially this butter yellow or champagne coloured dress. What put it in the Win Column for me was pairing it with a menswear inspired shirt, the pink shoes and the simple hair and make-up. This is how you do personalized style at an awards show (I’m speaking to you Bonham-Carter).
Claire Danes
I would never suggest anyone wear that shade of Pepto, but her Calvin Klein was really cool and simple in a night fraught with doilies, giant skirts and flesh coloured prom dresses. The colour looked good with her skin tone and hair (but really, nobody should ever wear this shade). The wrist cuff was interesting and the right touch. Angela Chase has really grown up.
Sandra Bullock
This is how you do I-Won-Last-Year-So-I’m-Wearing-Whatever-The-Hell-I-Want. New bangs, good makeup and a dress that she could cut the skirt off of and wear with jeans when she goes for one of those cheeseburgers she went on about last year. The colour on her Jenny Packham was good on her and really, it didn’t matter because she won the Really Big One last year.
Nicole Kidman
Some of you may have found her Prada gown boring, but I think when you look like that you don’t need ruffles, frilly things and the like. Think of the Coco Chanel quote about taking one thing off before you go out.  Also, I’m just glad to see her face moving again.
Julianne Moore
I didn’t really like this on the red carpet (speaking of which have you seen Short Cuts?) but when she was shown sitting down it looked great. When she stood, it looked like it could use a pressing but I suppose I’m nitpicking considering some of the horrors we saw last night. I loved her pulled back hair, the bit o’ bling at the neck and the shocking pink colour.
Heather Morris
Glee’s resident dim-bulb Cheerio surprised me by being unrecognizable in Lorena Sarbu. All-grown-up yet age appropriate, she nailed the nude trend and the frills trend with just the right colour and just the right amount of movement on the sleeves.
Worst Dressed
I won’t even mention names because they know what they did.
Wearing two different shoes isn’t taking a risk it’s just trying to hard to pretend you don’t care.
Your daisy appliques belong on a 70’s bathtub floor.
What was worse the oddly fitted slutty top or the red grass skirt?
One day you’re in the next day you’re out. Auf Wiedersehen
Add a bonnet and it’s Prom Night on Little House on the Prarie (sorry if you’re reading that for the second time).

I will conclude this with what I posted on my Facebook last night:
“For all my fashion-snarking, just know that I'm really just a gas-bag sitting at home in a T shirt and jeans. I'm not one to talk, but it sure is fun.”
