Recently, at work, my co-worker Angela and I stumbled upon a very strange world.
Do you remember this mid-eighties television sit-com ? In this show, The Lawson family, Ted the engineer father, Joan the doting mother, and Jamie their grade school aged son welcomed an addition to their family. The latest member of the Lawson’s, Vicki the titular small wonder, just happened to be a robot that Dad made at work.
From what we remembered, the show mostly consisted of the Lawson’s trying to keep Vicki’s inorganic origins a secret from their neighbours, the Brindles. Harriet Brindle (I’m sure she was cast because of her creepy resemblance to the hot toy of time), the pesky daughter had a major jones for Jamie. Her parents, Ted and Joan were scheming manipulators and the former just happened to be Ted’s boss.
Hilarity ensued.
Perhaps, you don’t remember this show? Well, now you can see what I’m talking about.
Ok, so there have been a lot of high-concept TV shows and this one mostly went unremembered.
Or so I thought. Once I went online to see what or if I would find anything, I soon found myself exposed to a world that I didn’t know existed and have been shaken by ever since.
When I went here, I read most of the page as I suggest you do. Whether or not these missives are real, they are truly bizarre. There was a whole fandom dedicated to something that barely caused a blip on the pop culture radar.
And of course, like any TV show worth its salt, "intellectuals" worked their magic on the many and varied (?) plotlines.
And then there was this.
If anyone can find a picture of an actual child wearing this I would love to see it.
That's it for today except for my new email contact which is myluckytigerbelt@yahoo.ca
