It seems as if this has NOT been the year of the woman. As a dude, I do what I can to empower, lift and generally support my sisters. I see a lot of anger out there in the “Battle of the Sexes,” and I seem to remember this being a thing when I was a child. I would love to see peace, equality and respect between everyone and I know when I’m talking to people about stuff like pay equity, Cosby, Gomeshi, Planned Parenthood, Women’s access to healthcare, and consent that most of us seem to be on the same page regardless of gender, sexuality, etc. Can’t we all just figure it out?

Now whatever gender you are this song is a rally cry to kick ass and to love all the cool chicks around you. Kathleen Hanna’s vocal on this is so good. My favourite version is the one on Pussy Whipped and this should have been a hit single. Alas, it remains a great theme for Riot Grrls everywhere.
