EMMYLOU BY FIRST AID KIT
The idea that these two girls from Sweden can sound like something
outta 1974 speaks to our global community in a way I’m not smart enough to
speak to, but man is this a great song. Sweet, gorgeous harmonies that work really
well on a wintery day.
The other thing is that they’re sisters. I went to a
babysitter who worked out of her house when I was a kid. At this house they had
some Barbies and some Dawns. Dawns were smaller and fussier than Barbie and I
responded better to Barbie's Amazonian qualities. When I Barbied it up, usually
somebody was fighting someone else. Anyway, the babysitter and her family would
make fun of me for playing with the dolls, but I always thought, “Fuck you
guys.” And enjoyed the shit out of the Barbies. The girls in First Aid Kit are
sisters who look like Dawn Dolls. Which is sorta cool.
