EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE BY THE POLICE
This is one of the best stalker anthems ever written and one
wonders if the song’s subject was filled with the compliment or repelled by the
creepy ick factor. And then one wonders if the song’s subject is one Ms. Trudie
Styler and is compelled to feel the creepy ick factor. One’s mind wanders on to
wonder if one will get beach time today and then one thinks about the summer of
83. Sometimes one gets nostalgic.
I spent pretty much every day that summer at the
neighbourhood park with a pretty big group of kids that all hung out there, all
day, every day. We were a pretty mixed bag in terms of our interests and social
circles, but for a couple years there it really worked and we all just hung out
all the time. Seeing it from this side of things I realize that I never see
young kids just hanging out in a group like that. I’m reminded that my
generation was the last to have childhoods with long stretches of unsupervised
total freedom. I was one lucky little bastard and had a pretty amazing
childhood. For the most part.
Oh can't you see? You belong with me:
