Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song
NOTHING IN THIS WORLD BY PARIS HILTON
I heard this getting sushi takeout the other night and loved it. I know we’re all supposed to hate Paris but I could never quite get on that bandwagon. She has some stuff going on and I cannot fault a go-getter. This and Stars are Blind were blindingly good pop songs and if there’s anyone who was born to be a fluffy pop star its Ms. Hilton. I think a big part of her appeal (sorry haters) lies in her emptiness. It creates a mirror that reflects the gaze of the viewer and allows us to draft whatever we want onto her in the absence of her personality. We are Paris Hilton and Paris Hilton is us. So if Paris Hilton fills you with rage…
The kittenish vocal production is awesome (those da da da’s) and any song that is about “tonight” always grabs me by the balls. There’s something urgent and youthful about it. The video is classic Paris which equals hilarious. And fellow Canuck Elisha Cuthbert plays a focal role. I’m even forgiving the insipid line, “Nothing in the world can turn out the light,” but just barely. Because I’m pretty sure there is something somewhere in this world that CAN turn out the light.
It’s a really big world.
And it’s just a light.
Find the nearest person with working hands. Ask them to flip the switch.
Anyway, all these years later and this song stands out as being a joyous little slice of perfect summer pop.
I can do what she can do so much better:
