WELL I WONDER BY THE SMITHS
This track has that rain sound effect which I normally would
hate, but this song makes it work. As always with the Smiths, the marriage of
Marr and Morrissey takes something fairly average and raises it to the amazing.
The rhythm section brings to mind Roy Orbison and one wonders what his cover
may have sounded like if he had ever done one.
I don’t know how the Smiths transcend through the years
because I’m an unabashed life-long fan, but I urge anyone who knows a teenager to
turn them on to the band. I’m pretty sure, thematically anyway, that all of the
songs would still feel like they belonged to the listener and the listener
only. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (I’m annoyingly repetitive)
that these guys got me through my teens.
