Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song!
SUMMERTIME SADNESS BY LANA DEL REY
Self-proclaimed “Gangsta Nancy Sinatra” is one of the most interesting pop stars out there right now and this song is perfect for right now. Lyrically, it’s poetic and gorgeous and her whole Americana thing seems to be really working over in Europe.
In North America I think she’s still faced with questions about authenticity. which is silly. I’m not saying she’s Bob Dylan but neither was Bob Zimmerman. Pop stars have always changed their names and Del Rey has a perspective and every move seems intentional. Her videos are gorgeous and dark and moody. I love to think of the 10 and 11 year-olds who are going to grow up listening to this.
Personally, this song works thematically with the last two weeks I’ve had and so this is on heavy rotation on a few different playlists.
Kiss me hard before you go, Summertime sadness, I just wanted you to know that baby you’re the best:
I’m feeling electric tonight, going down the coast doing ‘bout 99, I’ve got my bad baby by my heavenly side, I know if go I’ll die happy tonight:
