LAST YEAR BY BEST COAST
So: Mercury Fucking
Retrograde. I’m going to be 70’s dude here and talk a little about astrology
and why we’re all having such a weird shitty time right now. When the planet
Mercury appears to be moving backwards things get all messed up. Have you
noticed that there seems to be a lot of static in the air? Having stupid
arguments and being misunderstood by others or misunderstanding yourself? Is
your tech messing up? Plans falling through? General bullshit happening all
over the place?
Mercury Fucking Retrograde.
Further explanation
from astrologyzone.com: “What happens when Mercury retrogrades? You miss
appointments, your computer equipment crashes, checks get lost, you find the
car you just purchased during Mercury retrograde is a lemon. (Or, you hate your
haircut, the lamp you bought shorts out, your sister hates her birthday gift.)
There will be countless delays, cancellations and postponements--but know these
will benefit you in the long run. Don't fight them, although your frustration
level and feeling of restlessness will be hard to cope with at times.
All machinery and
things with moving parts--such as computers, VCRs, camera equipment, garbage
disposals, and so forth, will reveal any weak links now. It is critical that
you back up your data system and be more careful and vigilant than ever.
Projects will demand more time and money than anticipated this month.
In matters of the heart, if
your boyfriend or girlfriend breaks up with you or says something hurtful, take
a wait-and-see attitude. Since Mercury rules speech, they may not mean what you
think they are saying now. Let them have some space, and wait to see if they
mean in October what they said in September.”
The sentiment in this
amazing Best Coast song is about right for this time. The capital-R RAWK riff
is kickass and Bethany’s vocal is gorgeous. The la da da’s are creamy and
awesome. If you, like me, are annoyed as shit by this period of time, maybe
this song will help to ease your troubled soul.
Also this shit ends on July
21, so we’re almost done with it – until the next time.
I used to believe in you and me and now I believe in nothing:
What a year this day has been. What a day this year has been. Please don’t get me wrong, I just don’t know where my mind has gone:
