Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song!

EARS RING BY RAINER MARIA

One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite now-defunct bands, this is one of their most rocking songs. If you like this one, I suggest taking a wander through their whole catalogue. These guys were smart, cute and way ahead of their time. They were one of the first post-punk bands I heard to showcase guy/girl harmonies and I was led to them via my interest in Riot Grrl. When they began, they were lumped into that scene but, by the time they were done, they were being called Emo. None of this really matters because they are so good.

I love the self-righteousness of this song and the band delivers it with an exhilarated fury. Whomever this was written about can be proud of themselves for pissing of the songwriter enough that this came out. I wonder what that must feel like to be driving in the car, or whatever, and hear this and know its about you and your shitty behavior. On one hand it’s a great song and on the other it’s a total annihilation of your romantic character. The person she is singing to is no Delilah from that Plain White T’s song. Now, that is one lucky chick. I (not so) secretly aspire to have a song written for me that is as big a tribute as Delilah’s. Delilah is a cheeseball ballad but the youthful perspective lets me give it a pass. Somewhere in the world Delilah sits smugly while the subject of Ears Ring really ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Strange how the ears ring after a night of wrongdoing:

You already love her:
