Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song!
HOOD BY BY PERFUME GENIUS
The other day, I saw an orange jujube sitting on the ground. My first thought was about how delicious it would taste. But, of course, my second thought was how gross that would’ve been. Then I thought about whether it would have been really so gross. Like, the first pop-it-in-your-mouth moment would probably taste like the ground, but that’s barely a second and then an orange explosion of flavor would have happened. You could see how delicious the thing was just sitting there.
Instead, I bought a bag of jujubes for a couple bucks and ate a handful, making sure to get a couple of those lil’ bursts of orange goodness in there and then I ate another. So what was grosser? I’m kinda thinking had I eaten that jujube I would’ve been fine and not picked up bird flu or some shit and enjoyed it. Instead I ate too many and felt gross after. Why can’t I be the kind of person who picks food up of the ground (outside) and eats it?
Perfume Genius is Mike Hadreas from Seattle and makes gorgeous, heartfelt, melodramatic perfect rainy day music. This song is short and sweet but I keep going back to it when I’m out. I’m loving the music and this guy is becoming a huge piece of my Spring Soundtrack. Lyrically, he captures something here that is both beautiful and sad: my favorite! I feel like I’m in my very own queer David Lynch movie. Enjoy.
Oh, I wish I grew up the second I first held you in my arms:
You would never call me baby if you knew me true:
