SLOW HAND BY THE POINTER SISTERS
Ah, the pleasures of my 11th summer. Those were some long hazy lazy days that went on forever. The simple joys of hanging out at the park at the end of my block and still being kid enough to go in the cement wading pool while my dog Shadow ran around chasing splashes and barking.
When you’re 11 every song on the radio is a good one, but I remember this one seemed somehow super sexy to me and as I stood on the precipice of becoming a teen I couldn’t wait to get older. Teenagers seemed to have the best lives and I was ready. Of course, my teen years weren’t what I thought they would be and I think the excitement of their impending arrival was more interesting than the actual time I spent going through puberty, being awkward and all that fun stuff.
The vocal on this is sexy and yearning and the song just has an amazing languid groove. As a follow up to “Fire” this was a great one. The Pointer Sisters would go on to have a bunch of hits as I got a little older, but by then I didn’t love everything on the radio and my love for them was left in the dust of my childhood.
These two videos are amazing. The klassy location in the first with the bear rug and fire is just gorgeous and the oufits in the second one are enough to send Tina Knowles over the edge. This ain’t no House of Dereon bullshit on display here.
