MOCKINGJAY BY SUZANNE COLLINS
The conclusion to The Hunger Games Trilogy was satisfying and I have to say that I really enjoyed this series of kid’s books. Once again, Katniss Everdeen proves to be a likable heroine and the seemingly shocking violence seems out of place in literature for young folks, but, on closer inspection, is often left out or implied.
After surviving The Hunger Games, a televised fight-to-the-death match enforced on the kids of what was once the USA, Katniss has become a symbol of political revolution. The stakes are higher than ever for our heroine and those she loves and the love triangle introduced in the first two books deepens and reaches resolution by book’s end.
I look forward to the upcoming movie and am amused at the endless casting notices I’m reading on the internet. It is a testament to how passionate the young fans are about this series and I hope for their sakes that Hollywood can deliver something they will love. If you like reading series and don’t feel sheepish about reading “teen” books, then give The Hunger Games Trilogy a try.
