Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song!

MISSED BY PJ HARVEY

Do you do that thing where you’ve listened to a song so many times and you love it (Oh my God!) and in your head you have a meaning for it but don’t think too much about it? Well I’ve always thought this song was about: a) her character having a miscarriage; b) singing in the voice of Mary mourning Jesus; and c) a third person who’s disillusionment with God is causing her some pain. It could just be about some old boyfriend of Polly Jean Harvey’s, though. Whatever it’s about, this is one of those songs that creates imagery in my head every time I hear it like I’ve created my own personal video where PJ plays three different people in it. I do this with a lot of songs.

I love how pretty this song is and I love that it totally rocks. Recently, I’ve been talking to various people about how most bands only get two great albums in their whole body of work. Of course we all like songs off every album by our favorite bands, but from beginning to end, how many of the albums do we really love? I think it’s 2. I”m telling you this because PJ Harvey breaks that rule, if you ask me. She has 3, possibly 4 great albums and all her albums are great and different from each other.

I’d put stars at your feet put Mars at your head:

No words, no sign Mary say “I’m not lying” How come he’s so big?
