Oh My God! I Totally Love This Song!

FANCY BY REBA MCENTIRE and/or BOBBIE GENTRY

This is a song about a poor young girl who’s mother sells her into prostitution. I’m not even kidding. I discovered this song while flipping channels many years ago (I had found out that if I stopped every time I saw a Reba video I would be in for some sheer entertainment) and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This song paints a picture that will haunt you for seconds, maybe even minutes.

One time, a friend was over at my house and this song randomly came on iTunes and she screamed out in excitiement, “Fancy!” and we both laughed and laughed. I guess somebody had made her a mix and put this on there. Of all the crazy songs about Mamas selling their babies into sexual slavery, this one is the absolute best.

And I shivered as I watched a roach crawl across the toe of my high heel shoe:

You know I might have been born poor white trash, but Fancy was my name:
(This is the songwriter, Bobbie Gentry, performing it and she really hogs the moves when the chorus kicks in)
