Cool Design

KELLY WEARSTLER

When it comes to American Interior Design, there is nobody like Kelly Wearstler. Her elegant interiors are beautiful, full of amazing colour and super luxurious. They’re also way out of my price league but a boy can dream. I’ve read two of her books, Modern Glamor, The Art of Unexpected Style and Hue (both of these would make amazing housewarming presents for someone stylish you know) and was blown away at what great taste she has. If I could afford to copy her, I would. If I could afford to hire her I would.
I was lucky enough to be able to see first-hand her work in Palm Springs, California at the Viceroy HotelThis place does old-fashioned Hollywood glama in a whole new way. I had lunch by the pool and then walked the grounds and checked out the lobby and bar. Amazing design made me want to stay there forever. Her use of butter yellow, white and black everywhere was so cool and so elegant. If you get a chance, go check it out. Lunch was inexpensive so you can go and pretend you’re actually staying there even if you can’t afford it.
I first saw Kelly on a design show and what I loved about her besides her great talent was her fashion sense. You never knew what she’d wear next and she seems to have a good sense of humor. Lots of designers, especially of that calibre, seem a little snotty and haughty (I think that’s the name of my band, man) but Kelly seems grounded, down to earth and really funny.
If you can, check out her books, or google her and go for a surf. Kelly Wearstler rocks and she rocks hard.

The following pics are from the Viceroy, Palm Springs:

Also, she doesn't always just use yellow:
